Happily, our pal Maria\u2014accompanied for the first time by her canine co-pilot Tippy\u2014flew out to join us. Highlights of the holiday included:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Visiting the typographical Shangri-La that is <a href=\"https:\/\/theboxsf.com\/\">The Box SF<\/a>\u2014an old curiosity shop run by a colorful designer named Mark who happens to have been born a few blocks from where Maria now lives. The two of them know many of the same Kansas City artists &amp; Hallmark folks.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Whipping up cookies &amp; pies\u2014which fared far better than on previous trips that featured more, um, freeform interpretations of the recipes.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"769\" height=\"1024\" src=\"http:\/\/www.jnack.com\/micronaxx\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/IMG_4201-COLLAGE-769x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-9989\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.jnack.com\/micronaxx\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/IMG_4201-COLLAGE-769x1024.jpg 769w, http:\/\/www.jnack.com\/micronaxx\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/IMG_4201-COLLAGE-225x300.jpg 225w, http:\/\/www.jnack.com\/micronaxx\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/IMG_4201-COLLAGE-768x1023.jpg 768w, http:\/\/www.jnack.com\/micronaxx\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/IMG_4201-COLLAGE.jpg 1064w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 769px) 100vw, 769px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Taking in the San Jose Nutcracker in the beautiful California Theater.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Finding an orchid shop &amp; adding a new member to our brood.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Cruising around the Los Gatos &#8220;Fantasy of Lights&#8221; with the boys &amp; Maria hanging out the sides &amp; top of the car.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Sharing &amp; unwrapping many thoughtful, generous gifts, including the &#8220;MJB&#8221; coffee can that Hen &amp; I found for Maria (initials: MJB) during our first visit to The Box.
